[1] FBI: Texas man accused of Clovis murders, child abduction held in Abilene, TX – 26-year-old Alek Isaiah Collins is in custody. He is accused in the murders of two New Mexico women and the abduction of 10-month-old Eleia Maria Torres. An Amber Alert was issued Friday after police found Samantha ‘Harley’ Cisneros and Taryn Allen dead at Ned Houk Park, north of Clovis. A 5-year-old girl was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound. Police say they believe Collins was staying at a residence in North Abilene with the child. Around 4:30 a.m. Monday, Collins was arrested. Police say the 10-month-old girl is in “good health” but was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

[2] Parents speak out about handling of teacher accused of threatening student – Parents and students are speaking out about how South Valley Academy is handling the incident of a staff member accused of threatening a student with a box cutter. BCSO says School Director Anthony Perea turned himself in Monday. Perea is facing aggravated assault and child abuse charges. At Monday night’s special governing meeting parents say they were upset with how late they were notified and how little they knew. Students spoke about how unsafe they felt when Perea was on campus.

[3] Windy and warmer weather Tuesday – The winds will pick up in northern New Mexico by midday, and the rest of the state will see gustier winds this afternoon. Temperatures will be warmer this afternoon, warming into the 70s, 80s and 90s. High wind warnings are in effect for the Sangre de Cristo, northeast and central highlands, where 65 mph wind gusts are expected. The rest of northern New Mexico, and the Sacramento Mountains will be under wind advisories for 55 mph wind gusts today.

[4] LANL scientists say they’ve discovered potentially Earth-like environments on ancient Mars – Scientists at Los Alamos National Labs say they have discovered Earth-like environments on Mars. NASA’s Curiosity rover recently found higher than usual amounts of Manganese on Mars craters showing sediments where water used to be and a nearby shoreline of an ancient lake. The rover has been exploring the planet’s surface since 2012. Scientists say if life was present on ancient Mars, the increased amount of Manganese in rocks would have been an energy source for life.

[5] Taos animal shelter places longest resident in foster program – Stray Hearts Animal Shelter in Taos has placed the three-year-old dog, Mia, in a foster-to-adopt program. Mia has spent over 900 days at the animal shelter. Mia will continue to be monitored through the adjusting period before completing the adoption.
