LAPD website down for several hours on Friday

The Los Angeles Police Department website was down Friday, May 3 after being “overloaded,” officials said in a statement.

The department said the website had been down since 11 a.m.

As of 4:45 p.m., a message on the site popped up with the message, “Our services aren’t available right now. We’re working to restore all services as soon as possible. Please check back soon.”

While LAPD said the website was overloaded, officials did not explain what they meant by that. But the department said there had not been a security breach. They said the website being down was not affecting public safety.

The department’s website serves primarily informational purposes, providing access to department reports on crime statistics, use-of-force cases, police commission agendas, and other documents.

Staff writer Josh Cain and City News Service contributed to this report.
