Law enforcement responds to reported explosive device in home near Roswell

CHAVES COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Police Bomb Team responded to an alleged explosive device inside a home south of Roswell Wednesday morning.

Deputies first responded to the home Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m. to execute an arrest warrant. During the arrest, deputies saw a “suspicious device” in the residence, which was a large propane tank with what appeared to be electrical wires coming from the device, according to the sheriff’s office.

The homeowner told law enforcement that he had a live hand grenade in his home. No other information was provided.
