Ahoy!
It’s almost time again for the Lego ship building challenge at the Los Angeles Maritime Museum in San Pedro.
The annual contest, set this year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 13, embraces builders of all ages who love a challenge.
Lego pieces are supplied by the museum — located at Berth 84, Harbor Boulevard where Sixth Street ends at the harbor — and age competition categories are 3-5 years, 6-8 years 9-13 years and 14 and older.
And yes, there are prizes.
The work must be done completely at the museum — no home-built category this time — and participation is free. No registration is required but participants will need to finish up by 2 p.m.
Participants can arrive anytime after 10 a.m.
While more than one person can work on the same ship, the ship will be judged according to the age category of the oldest builder.
All of the finished ships and Lego pieces remain the property of the museum so ships can’t be taken home.
Museum staff will contact the prize winners after the contest.
