Long Beach to host inaugural Mariachi Festival this weekend

Long Beach is invited to the city’s inaugural Mariachi Festival this weekend.

The festival will be on Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Harry Bridge Park, 1126 Queens Highway.

Councilmembers Roberto Uranga and Mary Zendejas teamed up to host the vibrant celebration of Latin culture event for the community.

“As the two Latino Councilmembers serving on the City Council, it felt natural to team up to make this event a reality,” Uranga said in a statement on Tuesday. “District 7 and District 1 serve similar populations and we work together frequently.”

Musical performances include DJ Demo, Los Angeles-based Mariachi Tierra Mia and Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles – the first LGBTQ mariachi.

Grammy-award winning Mariachi Divas, Los Chicos del Mano, and Julian Torres y Mariachi Cenzontle from Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Records will be performing as well.

The festival is open to the public and parking is free. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and chairs.

There will also be food trucks, a resource fair, a kids fun zone and more.

“Community events like the Mariachi Festival, Uptown Jazz Fest, Sankranta and others are examples of how the City celebrates its diversity,” Uranga said. “They provide a space where people can come together, connect, and celebrate our common humanity.”
