Makinson and Hurrell score late tries as St Helens end Wigan’s winning run

St Helens 12-4 WiganHosts move top of Super League table after comeback win

St Helens ended Wigan’s 15-game winning run in Super League to emerge victorious in the Good Friday derby against the 12-man Warriors and move top of the table in the process.

The Warriors knew victory here against their greatest rivals would have tied the Saints’ record of 16 straight league wins set in the 2008 season. They had not lost a game since last July but two late tries, following the dismissal of Wigan prop Liam Byrne, were decisive.
