ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After what the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) called a “brutal” attack on an individual on the Mescalero Apache reservation, 37-year-old Dennett Jerome Chee has received a nine-year prison sentence.
The DOJ says Chee and another man attacked an unnamed individual in 2022. During the attack, the victim lost consciousness, the DOJ says.
Once the victim regained consciousness, he walked home and was then taken to the Lincoln County Medical Center. He was eventually transferred to the University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. The victim had a fracture on part of his eye socket, a vertebrae fracture, and other injuries, the DOJ says.
When police encountered Chee after the incident, he was carrying a wooden bat-like object. Facing federal charges, he pled guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
