Moisture begins to build in across parts of New Mexico

Far northeastern New Mexico have begun to feel impacts of a backdoor cold front, the impacts will encompass all of eastern New Mexico into Friday. Temperatures east of the Central Mountain Chain are 5°-25° cooler than this time yesterday. More clouds will arrive Friday as well before moisture from the Gulf of Mexico surges into far eastern New Mexico Saturday.

Late Friday into Saturday will be the best chance for wetting rainfall along and east of the Central Mountain Chain including the Northern Mountains. Most of the rain east will be drizzle or light showers as low, thick clouds hang around all day. The clouds won’t allow much, if any, sunshine. With the cold front not budging Saturday, temperatures will continue to drop across eastern parts of the state with highs only rising into the 50s/60s. It will also be cooler across the west Saturday but still remain well above average. Drier and warmer weather arrives into early next week.
