CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – What do a banded mongoose, an amur leopard, and a chuckwalla have in common? They are all animals at the Living Desert Zoo Gardens State Park that need veterinary care.
The zoo in Carlsbad is looking for veterinarian care providers to help with 24-hour emergency care, parasite control, animal vaccinations, and other programs. The state has posted a request for proposals online.
The state is looking to receive proposals before 4:30 p.m. on April 25. New Mexico has recently been struggling to find enough veterinarians for animal care. The state does not have any universities offering in-state DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degrees but does have agreements with schools outside of New Mexico to bring vets to the Land of Enchantment.
