New program helping Las Vegas Fire Department with communication

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – The Las Vegas Fire Department is bringing in new technology to help boost communication within the department and with the community.

“Back when I started in the fire service we carried three-ring binders. Literally, four or five inch three ring-binders and it had a page for every business and address in the city,” LVFD Seven Spann said. Spann says the department has moved away from the binders over the years, modernizing how to get important information to first responders.

The new program, ‘Community Connect’ gives details to first responders who respond to a call. The information can include where different rooms are, what may be in the rooms, are there kids involved, does anyone have any mental or physical disabilities and more. Spann says businesses or homeowners can create an account and add any information they want. He says that information will only be visible for responders once a call goes out. “It makes rescues and response a lot easier,” Spann said.

Community Connect can also be used to spread the word to the community about wildfires, flooding or even community events. Spann says just over 30 people have signed up so far. If anyone has questions about the program, they can reach out to the Las Vegas Fire Department.
