North Central New Mexico Economic Development District receives $1.3M grant for Santa Fe headquarters

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.3 million grant to the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD) in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The grant will be used for building renovations to help establish a new headquarters office for the NCNMEDD. The grant will be matched with $325,000 in local funds. NCNMEDD Executive Director Monica Abeita said they are looking to purchase a building at 644 Don Gaspar for the headquarters. Abeita said they are already working out of the building as they have been leasing it since December 2023.

The investment is expected to help boost economic opportunities and create more jobs.

“President Biden’s Investing in America agenda is a commitment to ensuring that all communities in New Mexico and across the country have the resources they need to diversify and boost their local economies,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo in a news release. “This EDA investment will revitalize the work of the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District, supporting economic opportunity and growth for the future.”

North Central New Mexico Economic Development District is an association of local government entities and other organizations created to encourage and allow regional cooperation on a multitude of issues. NCNMEDD was created originally to serve the eight counties of Colfax, Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Taos. Sandoval County remains a member, but is now attached for planning purposes to the Middle Rio Grande Council of Governments.

“The new headquarters of the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District will be a beacon of progress, offering vital resources to local governments, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and prosperity across our communities,” said Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in the news release.
