Over EUR 1 bln investments announced in the Port of Constanța
The Romanian Government approved in the meeting held on Thursday, at the proposal of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI), the Memorandum regarding the implementation of infrastructure works, access roads and utilities, in order to develop specialized terminals in the port of South Constanţa – the IIIS and IVS Piers.
According to a MTI press release, the total estimated value of the works (Mol III S and IV S) is 1.12 billion euros.
“The expansion of Constanța Port through the creation of deep berths/specialized operating terminals, an objective included in the Transport Master Plan, can determine the increase of investments in the area. The works related to Piers III S and IV S were foreseen within the investment “South Port Constanța “Free Zone”, according to the press release.
According to the Pre-feasibility Study prepared by CN Administraţia Porturilor Maritime SA Constanța, in 2019 the estimated value for the 2 objectives and the technical characteristics are as follows: Mol III S – 305.6 million euros – 45 ha operating platform, 11 ha logistics area , 7 berths (berth depth -16.5 m); Mol IV S – 815 million euros – 110 ha operating platform, 25 ha logistics area, 10 berths (including 5 berths with a depth of -16.5m and 5 berths with a depth of -19m). Thus, the total estimated value of the works is 1.12 billion euros.
By making the investment, the possibility is created for the operation of large-capacity ships at the approximately 17 berths newly created on Pier III S and Pier IV S, due to the large water depths in the area of the newly built quays, the quoted source emphasizes.
