Passenger who tried to breach cockpit on flight diverted to Albuquerque sentenced

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After an airline passenger was accused of attempting to enter the pilot’s cockpit on a flight from Los Angeles to Nashville, a Delta Airlines flight was diverted to Albuquerque. Now, that passenger has been sentenced in federal court.

The passenger, 46-year-old Asiel Christian Norton from Oregon, pleaded guilty to two counts of simple assault, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). A federal judge sentenced Norton to one year of probation.

The incident occurred in 2021. Norton rushed to the front of Delta Airlines Flight 386 as they were mid-air. Norton injured another passenger in the process and shoved a crew member that was trying to get Norton back to his seat, the DOJ says.
