PSD-PNL candidate for Bucharest, Catalin Cirstoiu, accused of incompatibility

The PSD-PNL candidate for the Bucharest City Hall, doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu is again accused of incompatibility, following an investigation by Hotnews journalists. According to the documents presented, the doctor would have given consultations, for a fee, at his wife’s private clinic, while he was the manager of the University Hospital. Cîrstoiu claims that it is a maneuver by his political opponents and invokes an investigation from 2020, the results of which have not been made public until now.

According to a Hotnews investigation, the doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu, the current candidate supported by PSD and PNL for the capital’s mayor’s office, is accused of incompatibility.

The proof would come from a former patient. His documents prove that, in October 2023, he was even consulted by orthopedic doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu at the private clinic ANEMONA MED, owned by Dr. Monica-Mihaela Cîrstoiu, his wife.

Doctor Cîrstoiu was at the same time, in 2023, general manager of the Bucharest Emergency University Hospital, and according to the law he could not have another position, paid or unpaid. Hotnews journalists claim that the medical letter and initials of Dr. Cîrstoiu were on the ANEMONA MED clinic, but the invoice given to the patient came from another company: Praxis Medical. And this belongs to the wife of Cătălin Cîrstoiu. According to the document, the patient paid 750 lei for medical services.

Cîrstoiu denies the accusations. “It’s an investigation conducted by the National Integrity Agency (ANI), a press release was also issued, so let’s let the state institutions do their job. I didn’t break the law, I’m not in incompatibility, and campaign messes are typical and I expected this. My opponents probably find no other option than to approach this campaign in this way”, said Cîrstoiu.

According to Hotnews, doctor Cîrstoiu was also targeted by an investigation by the Prime Minister’s Control Body, at the time when the Government was headed by Ludovic Orban. In 2020, he was suspected of possible incompatibility and conflict of interest. This is because he was also a manager at the University Hospital, but he also worked at the ANEMONA private clinic.

The PSD-PNL candidate for the Capital City Hall, Cătălin Cîrstoiu, refused, on Wednesday evening, to answer the insistent questions of the HotNews.ro journalist about the remunerated consultation at the private clinic owned by his wife, Monica-Mihaela Cîrstoiu. He only claimed that a National Integrity Agency investigation was underway, then walked away, ignoring repeated questions from reporters. Asked why he was running, the doctor replied that he was going somewhere else, drawing the journalist’s attention not to trip.
