Report: Sandia National Labs contributed $140B to economy since 2000

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New studies are showing just how much of an economic impact Sandia National Laboratory has had. According to the studies, Sandia Labs has helped contribute around $140 billion to the economy since 2000.

More than half of that amount has been from new product sales. “One thing that many in the public may not recognize is that while we are the brains behind much of this technology, we don’t commercialize or produce any of it. We instead rely on partnerships to bring it to market. In many cases it is small businesses who then take the next step to build on what we started,” said Deputy Labs Director and Chief Operating Officer David Gibson.

Some of the partnerships the lab has had in that time frame are with Goodyear, PNM, and Albuquerque-based Advanced hCMOS Systems.
