RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Rio Rancho City Council is holding a public hearing Thursday over site plan approval for the second phase of a solar plant near the double eagle airport.
In October 2022, the council approved the first phase of the project named, “Atrisco Solar.” At the time, the proposed development drew negative feedback from the community. Neighbors voiced their concerns over the safety of nearby residences and potential glare from the solar panels affecting flying aircraft, but phase one ultimately passed.
At Thursday’s meeting, the council will consider phase two of the project. The developer says when the whole project is complete, the site will produce 400 megawatts of renewable energy.
