Rio Rancho city manager sends budget recommendation to mayor and city council

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Matt Geisel, Rio Rancho’s city manager, has sent the recommended fiscal year 2025 budget to the mayor and city council. The recommendation suggests investing in city personnel.

“To ensure we maintain the ground we have gained in the current labor market through past adjustments and to keep up with competitors, I am proposing a cost-of-living adjustment of 5.0 percent for all employee groups (subject to collective bargaining),” Geisel wrote in the recommendation. “The estimated recurring cost for this adjustment in FY 2025 is $2,298,875 for the General Fund and $258,534 for the other funds.”

Geisel also recommends boosting compensation for managers, supervisors, and other confidential/non-union-represented employees. The recommendation also asks for investments in roadway maintenance, water infrastructure, and public safety.

The recommendation will be reviewed by the mayor and city council on Thursday, April 25. The meeting will be streamed on the Rio Rancho city website. The public can comment on the recommended budget at the May 9 and May 23 city hall meetings.
