Ryanair Adjusts Growth Plan for Iasi Airport Due to Tax Hike

The Irish low-cost operator Ryanair reports that it had to revise its growth plan for Iasi Airport, in the summer season 2024, due to the airport’s decision to increase taxes by 25%.

As a result of excessive increases in airport taxes, Ryanair will not increase activity in S24, this increase being instead allocated to other airports in Romania, such as Cluj and Bucharest, the airline announces.

While airports all over Europe are reducing fares to ensure the increase in air passenger traffic, Iași Airport is raising fares by +25%, which is particularly bizarre. The decision to increase the fees comes at a time when a new terminal was opened to significantly increase the capacity of the airport in Iași. These excessive fees make Iași airport no longer competitive and mean that the city and the region will lose connectivity in the coming years, the company says.

Ryanair will carry between 198 million and 200 million passengers in the financial year starting in April, down from the 205 million passengers previously forecast, with the company previously announcing cuts to its summer schedule due to delays in Boeing jet deliveries.
