Silcotub Building Solar Plant at Calarasi Steelworks: NRRP Funded

Silcotub, a company controlled by Tenaris, launched the tender for the construction of a photovoltaic plant of almost 20 MW near the steel mill in Călărași, a project of 80 million lei (around 16 million euros) partially financed by the National Resilience and Recovery Plan (NRRP) funds.

The estimated total value of the project is around 80 million lei, and the company is waiting for offers from interested companies until April 9. The photovoltaic plant must be completed and commissioned by the end of this year.
The estimated electricity production is around 30,700 MWh annually, that is, somewhere over 614,000 MWh in 20 years of operation of the facility.
The company will thus avoid greenhouse gas emissions in the amount of almost 19,000 equivalent tons of CO2 per year.

A first qualification criterion for the auction is that the bidder (individual or consortium) has had an average turnover of 40 million lei in the last three years – 2020, 2021 and 2022 are taken into account. The bidder must also prove that he has installed at least 5 MW in photovoltaics, but on the ground, not on roofs.

Silcotub operates the pipe factory in Zalău, the steel mill in Călărași, the pumping rod factory in Câmpina, service centers in Ploiești and Cluj-Napoca and a scrap metal collection center in Popești Leordeni. In 2022, the company reported a turnover of four billion lei, a net profit of 442 million lei and almost 1,800 employees, according to Termene.ro data.
