Simona Halep announced, in a message posted on social networks, that she is missing from the tournament in Madrid because her body needs more time to be ready to play in the WTA circuit.
“Unfortunately, my body needs a bit more time to be ready and I made the difficult decision not to play in Madrid. It’s difficult, because I want to return to the circuit as soon as possible, but experience tells me not to rush. I thank MutuaMadridOpen, which gave me the wild card, and my fans”, noted Halep on X.
At the tournament in Madrid, there are three Romanians on the main draw: Ana Bogdan, Sorana Cîrstea and Irina Begu. Ana Bogdan will meet Xiyu Wang (China) in the first round, Irina Begu will meet Linda Fruhvirtova (Czech Republic), and Sorana Cîrstea, seeded 27, will play directly in the second round.
