Southland crime: Armed robbery in South Holland, bar vandalism in Oak Lawn

Burbank

VIOLENT OFFENDER: Curtis Vaughn, 63, Chicago, was arrested March 21 in the 2600 block of 98th Street and accused of failing to register as a violent offender as required by his conviction of murder of an infant in 1982, police said.

Evergreen Park

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Demarco D. Dunbar, 23, 9100 block of Pulaski Road, was accused of aggravated battery to a police officer March 6 after struggling with officers responding to a domestic issue.

POSTAL GUN: Alfonso L. Robinson, 72, Chicago, was arrested and charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon during a March 15 investigation by the inspector general’s office after a gun was found in the postal truck he was driving at 97th Street and Kedzie Avenue, police said.

Frankfort

DUI CRASH: David C. Leisen, 37, 24300 block of Pine Ridge Drive, Monee, is scheduled to appear in court April 4, charged with drunken driving in connection with a March 8 crash at Harlem Avenue and Dralle Road, according to police and Will County court records online.

Lockport

GROOMING ALLEGED: Steven R. Stepp Jr., 34, 14800 block of Kilpatrick Avenue, Midlothian, was arrested March 21 on a warrant charging him with traveling to meet a minor for sex and with grooming, according to Will County court records online. Officers encountered Stepp and a teenage boy during a disturbance investigation at a store in April 2022, police said. The teen was reluctant to assist the investigation, but eventually said Stepp had arranged the meeting through a social medial platform, police said.

DUI CRASH: Cameron B. Vaughan, 24, 16400 block of Teton Drive, Lockport, was taken into custody Tuesday on a warrant charging him with aggravated assault to a police officer, resisting arrest and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs Feb 23, according to Will County court records online. Vaughn, who was also under the influence of a prescription opioid at the time, crashed into a light pole at Teton Drive and Teton Circle and resisted arrest, causing minor injuries to two officers, police said.

Oak Lawn

BAR RAVAGED: An unidentified male began a four-minute vandalism spree March 18 by driving a 2016 Kia stolen out of Chicago through the north wall of GG’s Sports Bar & Grill, 9600 Pulaski Road, police said. Security video shows the person turning driving over to a second male and then destroying equipment and alcohol by hand until he is joined by the second person, and the two break video gambling machines and try to crowbar open an ATM, police said.

ROAD RAGE: An SUV driver showed a handgun and drove into a pregnant woman, knocking her down, after she exited her vehicle during a March 21 road rage encounter on Southwest Highway at 95th Street, police said. The woman, who was driving a child to school, said she got out to ask what was wrong after the other driver cut her off, drove behind her car and yelled at her, police said. The woman, who was calling 911 when she was hit, was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Palos Hills

MARIJUANA POSSESSION: Rafat A. Hasan Subhi, 41, Joliet, was charged with manufacturing, with intent to deliver, at least 5,000 grams of cannabis during a March 23 traffic stop in the 7700 block of 111th Street after an officer recovered more than 14.5 pounds of cannabis from the vehicle, police said.

Park Forest

DUI CRASH: A 34-year-old Calumet City man involved in a two-vehicle March 16 crash that hospitalized him and a passenger is scheduled to be arraigned Monday for drunken driving and driving on a suspended license, according to police and Will County court records online. Nathan L. Heyward’s car was hit on the driver’s side after he disregarded a stop sign and pulled in front of a northbound vehicle on Western Avenue about 1/2 mile south of Steger Road, police said. Heyward and the front-seat passenger received spinal injuries and broken bones and two passengers were treated for cuts, police said. An infant in a car seat in Heyward’s vehicle and the other driver escaped injury, police said.

South Holland

ARMED ROBBERY: Six males who arrived in a 2021 Cadillac XT4 brandishing guns March 7 outside the South Holland Community Center took $2,500 and his laptop computer from a man waiting for the return of the seller of a car he purchased through Facebook Marketplace, police said. The group arrived about five minutes after the victim contacted the seller, at 1:10 p.m. asking him to return to sign the vehicle title, police said. Officers recovered the computer on a back road near the South Holland Lincoln Oasis, police said, but didn’t say if the auto seller returned.

Steger

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Antuan D. Townsend, 43, Chicago Heights, was arrested and accused of aggravated battery to a police officer, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon March 16 in the first block of 34th Place after taking a cellphone at gunpoint and then resisting officers, police said.
