Orland Fire Protection District honors emergency responders
The Orland Fire Protection District recently honored several firefighter/paramedics who saved the life of cardiac victim Don Torgerson.
Accompanied by his wife and son, Torgerson attended the OFPD meeting late last month to express his gratitude for saving his life.
The department received a call Nov. 30 for a person passed out and dispatcher Logan Maske immediately recognized that the patient was in cardiac arrest, according to a news release from the district.
Orland Park police Officer Sean Murphy arrived on the scene and provided CPR until the arrival of firefighters, saving Torgerson’s life.
The William Bonnar Sr. Life Saving Award was presented by district Fire Chief Michael Schofield and EMS coordinator Lt. Joshua Girdick to the responding team, including PC L. Ramirez, AD A. Hiller, engineer C. Murray, firefighter J. McCleary, Lt. B. Buenzow, engineer S. McDonald, firefighter B. Steele and battalion Chief J. Hynes.
“I just want to thank everyone for coming today,” Torgerson said. “I can’t express how much this means to me, a fellow police officer and my dad being a firefighter, I know what you guys go through every day.”

Burbank’s Del Valle accepted into Albion College’s CSE
Burbank student Penny Del Valle was recently accepted into Albion College’s Lisa and James Wilson Institute for Medicine and the Center for Sustainability and the Environment.
