Steve Reaven’s baseball rankings and player of the week for Lake County

Mundelein and Wauconda are among the teams moving up as Grayslake North debuts behind player of the week Cody Rakoncay.

1. Libertyville 15-5-1 (1)

Ryan Andrews pitches out of a sixth-inning jam to earn the win in the Wildcats’ come-from-behind 7-6 victory against Warren on Wednesday.

2. Mundelein 14-4 (3) 

Sean Sanderson allows one earned run and strikes out 12 as the Mustangs beat Warren 3-2 on Tuesday ahead of a conference series against Libertyville next week.

3. Stevenson 13-8 (2) 

Matteo Nolasco is hitting .400 with eight RBIs over his past five games, including a go-ahead three-run homer in the Patriots’ 5-3 win against Mundelein last week.

4. Wauconda 14-6 (5)

Danny Newman and the Bulldogs have scored at least 10 runs in nine of 13 games since returning from spring break.

5. Grayslake Central 13-6 (4) 

As the Rams strive for consistency through the batting order, their pitchers continue to shine, with the team ERA still under 2.00.

6. Highland Park 14-8 (6) 

Shamar Wilson sets the Giants’ single-season record for stolen bases with his 30th on Tuesday.

7. Lakes 13-5 (8) 

Led by Jaden Jackson, the Eagles are getting it done on offense with a .332 team average and on the mound with a 2.88 team ERA.

8. Lake Forest 9-7 (9) 

Luca Royer goes 12-for-17 with five extra-base hits and nine RBIs as the Scouts win five of six games.

9. Lake Zurich 9-9 (10) 

Carson Hamblin has scored 10 runs in the first 25 plate appearances of his freshman season, including four runs since being moved into the leadoff spot this week.

10. Grayslake North 10-9 (NR)

Mitchell Hughes’ ability to hit to all fields is paying off, as he entered Wednesday batting .423 with a .552 on-base percentage, a 1.206 OPS and 16 RBIs.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Senior first baseman Cody Rakoncay goes 11-for-16 with 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored to help Grayslake North win four straight games, and through Wednesday he was batting .500 with 25 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
