STRABAG Completes New T4 Terminal at Iași Airport
STRABAG, the European technology group for construction services, completed the T4 terminal of the Iași International Airport, in time for the start of flights in the Schengen airspace.
The project, valued at approximately 65.6 million euros, was completed in 16 months – 4 months for the design and another 12 months for the actual construction.
During the entire duration of the works, STRABAG, together with its subcontractors, mobilized a workforce of approximately 600 professionals.
We built one of the most modern airports in Iași, now the second largest in the country. Our client was able to rely on our extensive experience in managing complex projects and on innovative practices, such as LEAN and BIM (Building Information Modelling) methods . All these increased the efficiency of execution and the accuracy of our work, ensuring the integration of all construction processes, said Johann Poelzl, Technical Managing Director, Civil Construction at STRABAG Romania.
The new terminal is designed to handle up to 3.5 million passengers per year and brings increased capacity and streamlined passenger processing during peak hours – up to 950 passengers per hour. For the new T4 terminal, STRABAG built and installed 20 check-in desks, 12 self-check-in systems, 14 boarding gates, six security filters, three airbridges, a VIP lounge and a business lounge, spaces for commercial activities and other related spaces. The project also included reconfiguring the airport’s access roads and increasing ground parking capacity from 350 to 600 parking spaces. To these is added the construction of a photovoltaic park.
Terminal T4 spans more than one hectare, is developed over three levels and adds a total area of more than 31,000 square meters to the airport’s infrastructure. Perfectly integrated with the existing terminal, the new terminal will accommodate international flights, allowing better organization of both domestic and international flights between the existing terminals, leading to the optimization of airport operations. From the new terminal, flights to Schengen countries, as well as domestic flights, will be operated.
