Survey: Over 70% of Romanians Believe Country Heading Wrong Way
Over 70% of Romanians believe that things are heading in the wrong direction in Romania. In a similar percentage, people believe that what is happening in the world is going in the wrong direction, according to a survey conducted by INSCOP on behalf of News.ro. The same survey shows that more than 60% of Romanians believe that their life is harder than five years ago.
Over a third of Romanians say that their life is better than five years ago, while more than 60% say that their life is harder than five years ago. The percentage of those who believe that in five years their life will be better is similar to that of those who believe that in five years their life will be harder.
Therefore, the research shows that 25.5% of Romanians believe that things are moving in a good direction in Romania (compared to 20.8% in 2022), while 70.1% are pessimistic about the country’s future (compared to 74.5% in 2022). 4.3% represents the share of non-responses (compared to 4.7% in 2022).
The PSD-PNL Alliance voters, the 18-29-year-olds, people with high and very high incomes and state employees believe that the country is moving in a good direction, in higher proportions than the average.
24% of the survey participants believe that the world is heading in a good direction (compared to 24.2% in 2022), while 70.6% are of the opposite opinion (68.9% in 2022). 5.4% do not know or do not answer this question (compared to 6.9% in 2022).
Asked how they see their life now compared to 5 years ago, 36.9% of respondents appreciate that it is “better” (compared to 29.3% in 2022), while 60.4% say that it is “harder” (compared to 68.9 % in 2022). 2.6% of those interviewed do not know or do not answer (compared to 1.8% in 2022).
44.4% of Romanians believe that in 5 years their life will be better than today (compared to 43.2% in 2022), while 46.2% believe it will be harder (compared to 46.6% in 2022). 9.4% do not know or do not answer (compared to 10.2% in 2022).
AUR voters, 18-29-year-olds, people with higher education, white-collar workers, and those with high and very high incomes believe in higher proportions than the average that life will be better in 5 years than now.
Compared to the 2022 INSCOP survey, the share of Romanians who believe that the country is heading in a good direction has increased slightly, while opinions about the direction the world is heading are constant. Also, the evaluation of the quality of life today compared to the situation 5 years ago reveals an increase in favorable perceptions, compared to the measurement in 2022. On the other hand, strictly related to the data for 2024, the share of those who believe that life is harder now than 5 years ago is significantly higher than those who believe that life is better. Regarding the expectations for the future, no significant differences are observed compared to the INSCOP measurement from 2022, the share of those who believe that in 5 years life will be better than at present being relatively equal to the share of those who believe that life in 5 years will be heavier”, says Remus Stefureac, director of Inscop Research.
