Tom Gleeson Rants As G Flip 'Bumps' Hard Quiz From Herald Sun Cover

Tom Gleeson has found the target of his next big feud: alt-pop trailblazer G Flip.

For those who aren’t avid readers of the Herald Sun (see: pretty much our entire readership), Flip appeared on the cover of last week’s VWeekend, a mini pop-culture magazine included in the newspaper’s weekend edition. Their story, dubbed On The Flip Side, was accompanied by the sell: “They are making Aussie music history, selling out tours globally, and even Taylor Swift is a fan. Meet G Flip, the drumming superstar taking the world by storm.”

Meanwhile, Gleeson was relegated to a button on the cover next to the giant image of Flip, with his (much shorter) blurb reading, “Unfiltered: Why Tom Gleeson thrives on breaking polite convention.”

The Logie-winning host of Hard Quiz jokingly took to social media to share his “outrage” over the snub, quipping that he’d been “bloody bumped from the cover” and posing the question to the editors of the Herald Sun, “who do you think is more likely to buy an actual newspaper, G Flip fans or Hard Quiz viewers?”

At the time of writing, Flip is yet to respond to Gleeson. We look forward to seeing their beef unfold, and going down as one of the messiest and most brutal in Australian pop-culture history.

Meanwhile, Flip is still riding high on the release of their recent second album, DRUMMER, which landed to widespread critical acclaim (including a nod on TheMusic.com.au‘s list of 2023’s best albums) last August. In the months since, they’ve racked up a sprawling list of achievements like huge wins at the ARIAs and J Awards, collabs with legends like Delta Goodrem and Mike Shinoda, and a shoutout from none other than Taylor Swift (and her own adoring fans).

DRUMMER debuted at #1 upon its release, with ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd personally applauding Flip for “pushing the narrative of Australian music forward” and “represent[ing] the next wave of homegrown success here and overseas”.
