Unique farm in downtown Albuquerque grows gourmet mushrooms

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A new farm has opened up in downtown Albuquerque but if you drive by you won’t be able to see it. Enchanted Farms Mushrooms has made its home in downtown Albuquerque near Lomas and Broadway.

The goal is to provide a nutritious fresh food option to those in the community. “If we want to improve and reduce food deserts in the community, we need people to know that food is being grown in these office buildings,” said Amanda Powers, founder of Enchanted Farms and Mushrooms.

Enchanted Farms Mushrooms are growing, at the moment, six different varieties in a 700-square-foot space as they try to attract more people downtown. “Trying to get the community to come down and trying to take this space that we have and retool it. Repurpose for things that are giving light to the community,” said Powers.

Enchanted Farms can bring mushrooms from farm to table in as little as nine days. At the moment, the farm can produce 30 to 100 pounds of mushrooms a week. They are currently selling their mushrooms online. What they can’t sell will be donated to different local non-profits

“It’s really important to me to be able to assist in creating accessible food for New Mexicans in our local community, said partner at enchanted farms mushrooms,” said Jacob Harris, partner in Enchanted Farms Mushrooms.

The farm will also start selling at the Downtown Grower’s Market on Copper Ave. starting this weekend with the hope of one day having a storefront. They say they will also look to grow different mushrooms later.
