Very Large Array to host open house event

SOCORRO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The Very Large Array (VLA) will be hosting a Spring Open House event on Saturday, April 20.

The free event is open to the public and will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be guided tours, talks, educational activities, and local food options. Visitors will have the chance to interact with NRAO staff, who will be on-site throughout the day to provide insights and answer questions about the VLA and its groundbreaking research.


New Mexico chefs, food establishments named as 2024 James Beard Award finalists

The event will feature presentations by the following NRAO staff speakers throughout the day:

Dave Finley will talk about the history of VLA.

Chris Carilli will talk on the ngVLA (next generation Very Large Array).

Paul Demorest will share insights about nanoGRAV.

Guided tours, led by NRAO scientist and engineer volunteers, will be offered every half hour between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Attendees are advised to dress appropriately for the weather and bring sunscreen and plenty of water the event takes place outdoors. Activities will be moved indoors to the visitor’s center if the weather is bad.
