April 12 Museum of Nuclear Science and History Adult STEM Night – Adults ages 21 and over are welcome to attend. Event goings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

April 12-13 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.

April 13 MADAGASCAR JR Pancake Breakfast FUNdraiser – The Cardboard Playhouse Theatre Company is hosting this fundraising event from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

April 13 Downtown Grower’s Market at Robinson Park – The event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 810 Copper Ave. NW.

April 13 National Multiple Sclerosis Society hosts Albuquerque ‘Walk MS’ – This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 13, starting at Hoffmantown Church on Harper Road. There are options for a 1-mile and 3-mile route, with the site opening at 8 a.m., the program beginning at 9:40 a.m., and the walk kicking off at 10 a.m.

April 13 2nd Judicial District Court hosts free legal consultation event – The Second Judicial District Court and the Volunteer Attorney Program are hosting the event from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at the Second Judicial District Courthouse in Albuquerque.

April 13 Casa Fortaleza to host third annual fundraiser for sexual violence survivors – The event will be held on Saturday, April 13, starting at 6 p.m. at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. The fundraiser will include dancing, live music, tapas, and raffle prizes. Tickets start at $40, and all proceeds go directly back to Casa Fortaleza.

April 13-14 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.

April 14 Scrap Arts Music at Popejoy Hall – Everyday scrap and salvage become musical treasure. Event starts at 3:00 p.m. Tickets start at $25.

April 17 Albuquerque Songwriters’ Cooperative Open Mic Night at Ancora – Every Wednesday night, Ancora Cafe and Bakery offers an open mic from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

April 12 Taos Pop UP – This event at the Hotel La Fonda de Taos begins at 4:30 p.m.

April 12 Community & Crafts – This free monthly gathering at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe is free and open to all ages. Attendees must RSVP on ArtWalk Santa Fe’s Meetup listing. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

April 13 Saturday Farmers Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.

April 13 Read to the Animals – This event by the Alamogordo Public Library will be at the Alameda Park Zoo beginning at 9:00 a.m. Children will be able to read to an animal and earn prizes.

April 13 Gentle Somatic Yoga – This event in Ruidoso will be at Blue Lotus Day Spa & Yoga starting at 2:00 p.m.

April 14 Sunday Chess Club – Popolo’s Games in Taos will host this free chess club open to all ages beginning at 1:00 p.m.

April 14 FREE Film Festive, EXPO & Raffle – This event at the Taos Center for the Arts begins at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are free but need to be reserved ahead of time.

April 14 Bloom and Brew – A bouquet-making class will be happening at Downshift Brewing in Ruidoso beginning at 4:00 p.m.

April 16 Swing on the Plaza – Free swing dance lessons begin at 7:00 p.m. on the Plaza De Las Cruces. Open dance begins at 8:00 p.m.

April 17 Spanish Class for Adults – This is a free event happening at 5:00 p.m. at the Taos Public Library.

🔶 Adult STEM night at National Museum of Nuclear Science and History – ‘Discovery After Dark’ will take place on April 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

🔶 Registration open for Albuquerque Little Theatre summer camps – Albuquerque Little Theatre Education and Youth Program offers classes, workshops, and summer camps that cater to students of all ages. Kids can register for Disney’s Descendants musical camp, the play actors mini camp, the Play Builders summer camp, and more.

🔶 Albuquerque IRS center offering free tax help on April 13 – On April 13, taxpayers can get face-to-face help without an appointment. Walk-in assistance will be offered at the 6200 Jefferson Street NE office from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

🔶 Albuquerque looking for medical sobering contractor for Gateway Center – Following a multi-million dollar grant, the city is now looking for someone to run medical sobering operations. To find a medical sobering contractor, the city is accepting proposals from non-profit or government providers until April 19.

🔶 University of New Mexico launches AI-focused event series – The next event will be on April 17 and will feature presentations from professors on ways AI is used in academia.

🔶 Central Ave. bridge designated as historic landmark – The Central Avenue Bridge crossing, near Tingley Drive and Sunset Road, now joins 23 other city landmarks after city leaders brought the proposal to city council. The bridge is part of the development of historic Route 66 and Albuquerque. It was constructed in 1930, and allowed Albuquerque to expand west of the Rio Grande, the city says.

🔶 New Mexico State Fair holding auditions to sing the National Anthem – The live auditions will be at the Boxcar Stage from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the EXPO New Mexico on August 6. To audition live, you must sign up by August 5.

🔶 Forest service asking for input on proposed burn near Albuquerque – The plan is to address nearly 3,000 acres of land in the Sandia Ranger District, and in Bernalillo and Sandoval Counties. The Forest Service says the project would reduce wildfire risk to nearby communities and restore forest structure. The deadline to submit comments is May 3, 2024.

🔶 Registration open for Bernalillo County summer camps – The summer camps run from June 10 to July 26, and registration is now open at this link. The seven-week program costs $290. The summer programs run from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

🔶 ABQ BioPark hosting its “Great Ape-ril” events – All through the month, the primate care staff at gives guests special opportunities to learn more about great apes. On Saturdays, April 6, 13, and 20, staff will set up special discovery stations near primate habitats.

New Mexico Notices

🔶 Rio Grande Theatre offering 2024 Summer Camp – Registration is now open for the inaugural year of the Rio Grande Theatre Camp. Theater and tech classes will be offered. The last day to register is May 24 at 4:00 p.m.

🔶 Cochiti Lake camping fees increasing for some sites starting April 15 – At Cochiti, campsites with running water will increase from $12 to $15 per site. Fees for other sites at Cochiti Lake will not increase, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says. At the Riana Campground at Abiquiu Lake, tent sites will increase from $8 to $10, trailer sites will increase from $12 to $15, and sites with electrical and water hookups will increase from $16 to $20 per site.

🔶 North Central New Mexico Economic Development District receives $1.3M grant for Santa Fe headquarters – The grant will be used for building renovations to help establish a new headquarters office for the NCNMEDD. The grant will be matched with $325,000 in local funds. NCNMEDD was created originally to serve the eight counties of Colfax, Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Taos. Sandoval County remains a member but is now attached for planning purposes to the Middle Rio Grande Council of Governments.

🔶 New Mexico laws going into effect in spring – Lawmakers recently approved a wide range of bills, from gun-related regulations to adjusted requirements students must meet to graduate high school. Many of those new laws go into effect on May 15.

🔶 Blue Hole in Santa Rosa temporarily closing for maintenance – The closure is scheduled to last two days, from Monday, April 15 through Tuesday, April 16. During the closure, there will be no swimming and no scuba diving at the site. Blue Hole will reopen for recreation on Wednesday, April 17.

🔶 New Mexico chefs, food establishments named as 2024 James Beard Award finalists – Chef Steve Riley of Mesa Provisions in Albuquerque and Chef Eduardo Rodriguez of Zacatlán in Santa Fe are finalists in the running for the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef in the Southwest. Winners will be celebrated at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on June 10 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

🔶 New Mexico History Museum to host free community event at the Palace of the Governors – The event is to celebrate the completion of five years of rehabilitation work at the Palace. “History Homecoming: Past, Present, Palace” will take place on Sunday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Palace of the Governors.

🔶 New Mexico offering debt relief for healthcare workers – Workers must meet certain qualifications, such as working in an eligible occupation or under an eligible healthcare license. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.

🔶 I-10 rehabilitation project near Arizona border to cause delays – A massive interstate rehabilitation project will cause delays on both eastbound and westbound I-10. The work will begin on Monday, April 1. Work on I-10 between milepost 0 at the Arizona-New Mexico border and milepost 15 in Hidalgo County will last around 200 working days, the New Mexico Department of Transportation says. Drivers should expect daytime lane closures.
