May 3 ABQ Artwalk – Art exhibits, markets, and performances will take over Downtown Albuquerque from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
May 3 My Family Supports DIY Filmmaking – Filmmakers, skaters, and artists will discuss the process of making films without rules or money at the Guild at 7:00 p.m.
May 3-4 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.
May 4 Downtown Growers’ Market – The market happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Robinson Park.
May 4 Albuquerque Turkish Festival – The Raindrop Foundation Albuquerque is hosting the festival beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Raindrop Foundation Turkish Cultural Center (7901 Mountain Rd. NE).
May 4-5 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.
May 5 Swinco de Mayo – Duke City Swing will be hosting a dance at the gazebo in Old Town featuring the music of the EQNX quartet.
May 5 Run for the Zoo – participants can choose from a half marathon, 10K timed run, 5K timed run, 5K fitness run, or a 1-mile fun run/walk. Registration is available all the way up to the day of the race, 30 minutes prior to your race time.
May 5 Mariachis de Nuevo Mexico Night at the Isotopes – Watch the Mariachis de Nuevo Mexico take on the Round Rock Express. Gates open at 3:00 p.m., game begins at 5:05 p.m.
May 8 Albuquerque Songwriters’ Cooperative Open Mic Night at Ancora – Every Wednesday night, Ancora Cafe and Bakery offers an open mic from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

May 4 Saturday Farmers Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.
May 4 AFD Firefighter Games – The Alamogordo Fire Department will host their 2024 Firefighter Games at Alameda Park from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
May 4 Cinco De Mayo Celebration Event – Immaculate Conception Church in Alamogordo is hosting this celebration beginning at 9:00 a.m.
May 4 Free Comic Book Day – Zia Comics in Las Cruces and Alamogordo is celebrating Free Comic Book Day with giveaways. Open from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
May 5 Sunday Chess Club – Popolo’s Games in Taos will host this free chess club open to all ages beginning at 1:00 p.m.
May 5 30th Season Spectacular at the Lesic Performing Arts Center – The Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association is celebrating 30 years with a showcase of talent from the Santa Fe area. Begins at 12:00 p.m.
May 5 Cinco De Mayo Carshow and Concert – The festivities begin at the Santa Fe Place Mall beginning at 1:00 p.m.
May 6 Open Space-Time – This free event is happening at Meow Wolf Santa Fe’s Rainbow Rainbow room beginning at 12:00 p.m.
May 7 Swing on the Plaza – This free event at the Plaza de Las Cruces begins with a free lesson at 7:00 p.m. and a dance at 8:00 p.m. The event is open to all ages.
May 9 Yoga at the Taos Public Library – A free beginner Yoga class for adults ages 18 and up happens every Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

🔶 Registration open for Albuquerque Little Theatre summer camps – Albuquerque Little Theatre Education and Youth Program offers classes, workshops, and summer camps that cater to students of all ages. Kids can register for Disney’s Descendants musical camp, the play actors mini camp, the Play Builders summer camp, and more.
🔶 Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office plans DWI checkpoints in May – Deputies will be looking for people driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Community members are asked to report drivers they believe are impaired by calling 911.
🔶 Albuquerque will collect grass clippings, green waste for free – Collections will happen curbside throughout the city, and the green waste will be turned into mulch to prevent erosion at the Cerro Colorado Landfill. Tree branches don’t need to be in bags, but should be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled together.
🔶 ABQ BioPark selling tickets for ‘Twilight Tours’ & ‘Night Walks’ – Tickets for the first Twilight Tours and Night Walk are now available to purchase. The Twilight Tours will allow guests to experience the sights and sounds of the zoo after hours all while led by a personal guide. Night Walks will let guests explore the botanic garden under moonlight as a guide takes them to search for night-blooming plants and nocturnal animals.
🔶 New Mexico State Fair holding auditions to sing the National Anthem – The live auditions will be at the Boxcar Stage from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the EXPO New Mexico on August 6. To audition live, you must sign up by August 5.
🔶 ABQ BioPark invites families to celebrate Mother’s Day at the zoo – On May 12, starting at 9 a.m., the zoo will feature live music all around the park as well as free face painting and specialty menus. Tickets are available online.
🔶 Polk Middle School gets federal award for sustainability – Last year, Polk Middle School was on the verge of being consolidated as part of a district-wide effort to “right-size.” Now, Polk Middle Schools is thriving in terms of its unique, environmentally friendly classroom focus.
🔶 Petroglyphs National Monument opening new trail system on May 3 – The National Park Service (NPS) is opening the South Point Day Use Area. The trailhead gives new access to the southernmost portion of the volcanic escarpment, the NPS says.
🔶 Registration open for Bernalillo County summer camps – The summer camps run from June 10 to July 26, and registration is now open at this link. The seven-week program costs $290. The summer programs run from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
🔶 Constructive Conversations series with Albuquerque city leaders – The city is holding the series to help bridge the gap between what the community wants and what the city can do. The constructive conversation series runs through the month of May and will reach all over the city. The events are free to attend, but guests must RSVP in advance, by clicking here.
New Mexico Notices
🔶 Rio Grande Theatre offering 2024 Summer Camp – Registration is now open for the inaugural year of the Rio Grande Theatre Camp. Theater and tech classes will be offered. The last day to register is May 24 at 4:00 p.m.
🔶 New Mexico legislature taking applications for internships – Applications are now open for undergraduate students and those who have recently graduated from college. Interns help with day-to-day staff work and are paid $17 per hour.
🔶 BLM looking for comment on oil and gas leases in New Mexico – In 2021, BLM approved leases for about 6,000 acres of land in New Mexico. Then, Citizens Caring for the Future sued BLM over the plan. Now, as that lawsuit remains pending, the federal government is asking the public to comment on a new analysis of the leases. The deadline for commenting is May 21, 2024.
🔶 New Mexico Environment Department offering free well testing in Capitan – The state is offering free domestic well water testing on May 4, 2024, in Capitan, New Mexico. The event coincides with Smokey Bear Days. The event will be at 118 Smokey Bear Boulevard in Capitan. Testing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on May 4.
🔶 Bison moved from Yellowstone to Taos Pueblo – The bison were moved as part of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Grasslands Keystone Initiative, a federal effort to utilize indigenous knowledge to protect North America’s central grasslands.
🔶 Vacant secretary seat filled at New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department – New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham appointed Melanie A. Kenderdine to be the department’s new leader. Kenderdine brings experience from the non-profit and government sectors.
🔶 New Mexico gives UPS over $473,000 to upgrade to cleaner trucks – The grant money for the upgrades comes via the federal Diesel Emissions Reduction Act. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded federal funding to New Mexico under the act, and New Mexico passed the funds to UPS.
🔶 New Mexico gets $2 million to help provide utilities to low-income homes – The program helps more than 30,000 households in the state as well as tribal communities, the New Mexico Human Services Department says. New Mexico is encouraging households to apply for the program if they are eligible. You can see if you qualify at this link.
🔶 New Mexico laws going into effect in spring – Lawmakers recently approved a wide range of bills, from gun-related regulations to adjusted requirements students must meet to graduate high school. Many of those new laws go into effect on May 15.
🔶 New Indigenous Language grant program – The grant is available to Santa Fe, Taos, and Rio Arriba counties. Nonprofits, local government, indigenous communities, and other eligible organizations of those counties are invited to propose projects that preserve, revitalize or promote indigenous languages.
