Zozobra ‘gloomies’ performance to return at 100th burning

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The 100th burning of Zozobra is four months away and to celebrate the monumental occasion, event officials are bringing back a fan-favorite event. The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe announced they will allow children to return as the role of “gloomies” for the upcoming centennial burning of Zozobra.

Gloomies are children dressed in white tunics that parade around Zozobra in a choreographed dance.

Event officials say there will be a competitive selection process for children interested to ensure the highest standards of safety and performance. Officials say kids should be good at following directions, be comfortable with performing in front of audiences, and should not be afraid of Zozobra. Auditions are slated for June 8 at Fort Marcy Park. For more information, click this link.
