FBI gives award to Assistance Dogs of the West

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Assistance Dogs of the West, which trains therapy dogs for children and individuals working with the criminal justice system, has received the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA).

The national award acknowledges those who make a difference in their communities. Every year, each of the nation’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) field offices gives an award to a deserving community member or organization.

“Assistance Dogs of the West has truly been an asset to FBI Albuquerque and nationwide through their rapid deployment teams,” Raul Bujanda, the special agent in charge of the FBI Albuquerque Division, said in a press release. “This continued partnership is incredibly important to our shared responsibility to the communities we serve, and we thank them for the commitment, kindness, and compassion demonstrated through the work they do.”

The dogs help comfort individuals working with the FBI and criminal justice partners. For example, the dogs can help children that have been involved in domestic crimes. They can also help court workers that are involved in difficult cases.
