$1.9M Queen Anne-style home in River Forest is that village’s priciest listing

A five-bedroom, 4,000-square-foot vintage Queen Anne-style house in River Forest whose owners claim to have redone 97 percent of the home has been listed for $1.89 million and currently is that village’s highest-priced listing.

Built in 1910, the house has been transformed over the past few years by its current owners, who paid $400,000 for it in late 2021. The home has 5-1/2 bathrooms, white oak floors in the front foyer, an open concept layout on the first floor, a family room with a gas fireplace and a kitchen with quartz countertops, custom hand-made maple cabinetry, custom lighting and a 48-inch Ilve Majestic oven range.

Other features include a mud room, two laundry rooms, a first-floor office, a lower level with a wet bar and beverage refrigerator, and a third floor with a bedroom and a hidden retreat. Outside on the 0.2-acre property are a front porch and a back deck.

“This home is one of a kind,” listing agent Stephen Scheuring of Baird & Warner told Elite Street. “From the design choices to the master carpenters that carved its beauty, there is nothing else like it. A new owner will move into the (house) and enjoy luxury beyond anything else and quality to last a lifetime.”

The owners first listed the house in December for $1.95 million, and they cut their asking price in February to $1.89 million.

The home had a $9,652 property tax bill in the 2022 tax year. However, after the home sells and is reassessed, property taxes would be expected to at least double and perhaps triple.
