Well-known South Korean actress Claudia Kim, aka Kim Soo-Hyun, portrays the significant character, Bok Dong-Hee, in the upcoming JTBC K-drama, The Atypical Family. The series will debut on May 4, 2024, on the JTBC network.
Claudia Kim and the other cast members and director Jo Hyun-Tak attended the production presentation for The Atypical Family on Thursday, May 2, 2024. During the event, the actress addressed and opened up about the incredible transformation of her appearance in the upcoming K-drama.
Actor Claudia Kim opens up about her transformation for The Atypical Family
At the production presentation event for JTBC’s The Atypical Family, actress Claudia Kim talks about her pivotal role as Bok Dong-Hee, who is the main character Bok Gwi-Joo’s (Jang Ki-Yong) elder sister. Bok Dong-Hee has the superpower of “flying,” and she used to be a supermodel. However, she has lost her superpower due to weight gain, as she has bulimia.
In the series, Claudia Kim, aka Kim Soo-Hyun has completely transformed her appearance for her role with a large body weighing over 100 kg and special make-up. As per Xports News, while talking about this drastic transformation, the actress says, “I didn’t really recognize myself either,…I really like trying new things. But in fact, the managers also asked me at first, ‘It won’t be pretty, will it be okay?’ But they chose me for this role….I was surprised that they even thought about me, and I thought that if there was any prejudice against me in the past, I could completely break it.”
The director of The Atypical Family, Jo Hyun-Tak, who also attended the event, commented on Claudia Kim’s astounding transformation in the upcoming K-drama. He has praised the actress for deciding to take up this role. He says, “I have to put on makeup for almost 7 to 8 hours before filming, and then disassemble it again after filming. It may be uncomfortable and not good for a female actor to have such special work done on her skin, but I am truly grateful that she made such a big decision.”
It will be quite intriguing to witness how Claudia Kim’s character, Bok Dong-Hee, will turn out in the series. The Atypical Family will premiere on May 4, 2024, on JTBC.
