ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man admitted to killing two people when he was only sixteen during a plea hearing on Wednesday. Josef Toney pled guilty in front of Judge Courtney Weaks to five charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, for the shooting deaths of Aerial Mallam and Jessica Lucero.
In 2021, Toney shot and killed the two victims during a robbery at the Aztec Village Apartments on Montgomery. Then while running away, he shot a man three times and shot at a fourth person while trying to steal a car. Toney was only 16 years old at the time and could be sentenced as a serious youthful offender. He’s facing 19 to 34 years behind bars.
