Albuquerque man sentenced to 4.5 years of supervised probation for child abuse

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One of the parents accused of child abuse after one of their children overdosed on fentanyl took a plea deal and was sentenced on Wednesday. The Albuquerque Police Department was called to the home of David Olivas and Chanel Gallegos back in May 2023 because their child was unconscious.

Medics determined the child had overdosed and had to use Narcan to revive them. APD found a baggie of fentanyl out in the open that was accessible to both children in the home.

Olivas pled no contest to child abuse not resulting in death, and possession of a controlled substance. Judge Bruce Fox sentenced him to four and a half years of supervised probation. Gallegos has pled not guilty to numerous child abuse charges.
