The ongoing modern C-drama Best Choice Ever released episode 36 on April 24, 2024. It features Xu Kai and Yang Zi in the lead roles. The episode focuses on Cheng Huan (Yang Zi) and Zhi Ming (Xu Kai) living in the village with their family. Mrs. Liu’s medical records reveal that she has a lung tumor. Mr. Mai advises Cheng Huan to take her mother to the hospital for a thorough check-up. Cheng Huan breaks down, thinking about how her mother has been suffering on her own. She recalls seeing her mother put on makeup so her family wouldn’t notice her cracked lips.
Cheng Huan reveals to her mother that she knows about her sickness. She urges her mother to go to the hospital. But Mrs. Liu is stubborn and refuses to leave. Cheng Huan announces that she won’t leave either. Cheng Huan follows her to the market and helps her mother with chores. Mrs. Liu makes them feel unwelcome in a desperate attempt to drive them away. Meanwhile, Cheng Huan’s father and brother arrive at the house. As soon as Mr. Mai sees his wife, he has an outburst of anger. The situation escalates when he calls her out for acting childish and threatens to divorce her.
After he calms down, Mr. Mai goes to have a proper conversation with his wife. Mrs. Liu tells him she does not know whether she will get better; thus, she wants him to find someone good. Mr. Mai promises not to leave her side.

As Mr. Mai loses all hope, Cheng Huan becomes the backbone of the family. She consoles her father and makes an appointment with a renowned oncologist all by herself. They decide not to push Mrs. Liu and give her some time. They also decide to stay with her in the village for the time being.
Cheng Zao has to go back to the city to take care of his work. Mrs. Liu finally approves of his girlfriend and apologizes to her son for not treating him well in the past. The duo breaks down crying, and Zao repeatedly assures his mother that she will get better.
Despite growing up in the city, Cheng Huan and Zhi Ming adapt to village life pretty easily. Cheng Huan realize that the village is where her mother feels most at ease, amongst her familiar faces. Cheng Huan and Zhi Ming make all kinds of efforts to cheer up Mrs. Liu. They try to strengthen the bond among family members in this difficult time and take the whole family out for a meal.
Mrs. Liu reminisces about her past. She mentions a delicacy from her childhood days called Feng’s Mandarin Fish, which she often ate. She hasn’t eaten it in a long time and craves its unique taste. Cheng Huan and Zhi Ming ask around the village to look for the vendor.
