Bucharest Mayor Announces Weekend Pedestrianization of Victoriei Avenue

The General Mayor of the Capital, Nicușor Dan, announced on Thursday, April 4, that the “Open Streets” program will resume on April 6 and 7, and Calea Victoriei will become pedestrian again this weekend.

He stated that on Saturday and Sunday, between 10:00-22:00, Calea Victoriei will be pedestrianized on the route Piaţa Victoriei – the intersection with Str. Gheorghe Manu and on the road segment Bulevardul Dacia – Splaiul Independenţei, but the intersections will not be affected.

The general mayor of the Capital announced more details on its Facebook page.

The biggest outdoor event in Bucharest begins, “Open Streets, Bucharest – Urban Promenade” which transforms, from April 6th until October 13th, the busy streets of the Capital into temporary pedestrian spaces.

Various theater performances, street concerts, exhibitions, workshops for children and sports activities will be organized in these areas. Over a million Bucharest residents and tourists participated in this event last year.

On the first weekend, April 6-7, 2024, Calea Victoriei becomes pedestrian, between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., on the Piața Victoriei road segment – the intersection with Gheorghe Manu str., respectively the Dacia Boulevard – Independence Splai road segment, without affecting the intersections.

During the weekends when the “Open Streets, Bucharest – Urban Promenade” event takes place, road traffic on Calea Victoriei resumes during the night until the morning (Saturday to Sunday), starting from 11:00 p.m. until 9:00 a.m,” reads the mayor’s Facebook post.
