Buffett’s Candies hoping to open second location by the end of this week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Those with a sweet tooth will soon have a new place to satisfy their cravings as an Albuquerque classic gets ready to open up a second location. “We’ve dreamed about it, we’ve planned for it,” said Donna Buffett, co-owner of Buffett’s Candies.

The design is a modern retro as they said they wanted to keep parts of the design from the original location. People can see those classic designs through parts of the store at the new Buffett’s Candies location in the Northeast Heights on Academy and San Mateo. “That’s one of the biggest things that everyone will really get to experience and see what we do,” said Donna Buffett.

The new location added plenty of windows for all to see most of the 2,000-square-foot production area. Shoppers will have a glimpse of the making and molding of the chocolates as well as the boxing.

They say they moved into the new space to have updated machinery to make chocolate to meet the demand. In the second location, they have tanks that can hold up to 2,000 pounds of milk chocolate, and another that can hold 700 pounds of dark chocolate, and a machine that will make chocolate for both locations. The machine can produce 12 pounds of chocolate within a minute. Before this, they could make a little over two pounds a minute.

Buffett’s Candies sells roughly 60,000-65,000 pounds of candy a year. “Nobody needs to worry about the quality of the candy, how it tastes. None of that is going to change. This factory is just going to help us make more of it,” said Tyler Buffett.

They are hoping the second location will open its doors later this week as they wait for more inspections. With the new machines the hope is to open more locations in the futures expanding throughout New Mexico. The new building will have office space area on the second floor as well as storage space. They say soon they will have a drive-thru for order pickups.
