Cancer Bats have announced their long awaited return to Australia, with their first tour in five years slated for this June.
The eight-show trek will kick off in Brisbane (Meanjin) on Thursday June 13, when the Canadian hardcore legends take to the outdoor stage at The Brightside. The next night (June 14) they’ll hit the Newcastle Hotel in the titular NSW town (aka Mulubinba), before rolling on through to Sydney (Eora) for two shows – a standard gig at the Crowbar on Saturday June 15, and a gig as Bat Sabbath – their Black Sabbath covers project – the night after that (June 16).
From there, Cancer Bats will play The Basement in Canberra (Ngambri) on Monday June 17, then head to Melbourne (Naarm) for another two shows at Stay Gold: the regular shebang on Tu June 19, a Black Sabbath show on Thursday June 20. Finally, the band will wrap things up at Jive Bar in Adelaide (Kaurna) on Friday June 21.
Joining them for the whole trek (notwithstanding the Bat Sabbath shows) will be Sydney outfit FANGZ, who last made waves with a pair of standalone singles in 2023 – they dropped Fine Without You in April, then Let’s Talk in June – following up on their 2022 EP Falling Is Pretty Normal.
Tickets for all eight shows go on sale at 10am local time this Friday (April 5) following an Early Bats presale that kicks off at the same time a day earlier – head here for info on both sales.
The tour comes in support of Cancer Bats’ seventh studio album, Psychic Jailbreak, which arrived in April of 2022. The last time we saw them tour Australia – in October 2019 – it was plugging the new record’s predecessor, 2018’s The Spark That Moves. Alex Sievers gave that disc a glowing review for TheMusic.com.au, calling it “a satisfying and invigorating listen”.
