The bones of Prince Nicolae, the brother of former Romanian King Carol II, were reburied on Friday in the new archiepiscopal and royal cathedral in Curtea de Argeş.
The tomb of Prince Regent Nicolae will be next to that of his older brother, King Charles II, in the vestibule of the new Cathedral.
The government in Bucharest approved at the beginning of this year, following the actions of His Majesty’s House, the bringing to the country of the remains of the second son of King Ferdinand the Complete and Queen Maria, as well as of his wife, Ioana Doletti.
Prince Nicolae of Romania was born at Pelisor Castle in Sinaia, on August 3, 1903, son of Crown Prince Ferdinand and Crown Princess Maria. Prince Nicholas was baptized by the Emperor of Russia, Nicholas II.
Starting from the age of 16 (1919) Nicolae of Romania studied at Eton College, in England, and had as his tutor Henri Peter Hansell, who had also taken care of the education of the Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VIII). He also did, starting in 1923, a military internship in the British Royal Navy, becoming an officer. He remained in Great Britain until 1926.
He took the oath as the first regent of Romania on July 20, 1927, at the age of 23. He was regent until June 8, 1930, when the throne was taken over by his brother, King Carol II. Later, he received honorary positions, such as those of general inspector of the army and president of the Superior Council of Aeronautics.

He married, on October 28, 1931, Ioana Dumitrescu-Doletti. However, the marriage was not recognized by his brother, Carol II, who decided to send his brother on two successive trips to Europe and the United States. The relations between the brothers became increasingly tense, Nicolae not accepting the annulment of his marriage. On April 9, 1937, Carol II excluded him from the Royal Family, suppressed his dynastic titles and rights and authorized him to bear the name of Nicolae Brana, reports the Royal House.
Prince Nicolae left Romania, going to Spain, then to Switzerland. After the establishment of the communist regime in Romania, he supported the organizations of the Romanian exile, including the Romanian Institute in Freiburg (and the library), the magazines Libertatea Românească and Fapta, printed in Madrid, and Factum Publishing. He founded the Romanian Research Center in Paris, and in 1954 the Union of Romanian Associations in Germany.
After the death of his wife, in 1963, he married a second time, in 1967, with Thereza Figueira de Mello, originally from Venezuela.
Prince Nicolae met in exile with King Mihai and Queen Ana only once, in Switzerland. He died in Madrid, on July 9, 1978, aged 74, and was buried in Lausanne, next to his first wife.
