David Gilmour’s latest chapter began with news of a forthcoming album, Luck and Strange, his first full set in nearly a decade. The aforementioned news landed in late April and was capped by the confirmation of the artist’s intent to take the set on the road, which he alluded to in an Uncut interview, and specific indication of U.K. dates on his official website. As a result, the artist dropped a six-night residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Oct. 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15.

The forthcoming live shows will mark the first time Gilmour has taken part in a run since 2016, providing a long-awaited opportunity for fans and admirers to catch the longtime member of Pink Floyd doing his solo routine. “I’m coming to the Albert Hall in early October, to play my favorite venue, certainly my favorite venue in England,” Gilmour said in an announcement video shared via socials. Watch below.

News of the confirmed concerts arrives after the musician detailed his impending set, Luck and Strange, due on September 6 via Sony Music. Touching on the run during Gilmour’s Uncut chat, he revealed, “For the upcoming tour, rehearsals need to be scheduled and a setlist needs to be put together,” noting an “asterisk system” in the works to determine which songs will make the setlist. He also spoke on his feelings about bringing back classic Pink Floyd, stressing “an unwillingness to revisit the Pink Floyd of the ‘70s,”

Luck and Strange was recorded over five months in Brighton and London, with help from producers David and Charlie Andrew. Tapping into the experience, Gilmour recalled of the partnership, “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, ‘Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?’ and ‘Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?’ He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”

The material on the ensuing LP was composed by Gilmour and Polly Samson, the musician’s co-written and collaborated over the last 30 years. Makes sense of the lyrical themes that permeate the impending collection, Samson offered, “It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.” Gilmour details, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those things.”

Pre-ordering Luck and Strange from the official David Gilmour UK Album Store at davidgilmour.com gives UK/IE residents first access to tickets.
