Dodson fight ends in a draw, other New Mexicans shine in BKFC 59

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) once again returned to Albuquerque and Tingley Coliseum on Friday night. John “The Magician” Dodson headlined the BKFC 59 card as he defended his flyweight belt against Dagoberto Aguero.

Dodson (3-0 BKFC, 3 KO), faced his toughest bare knuckle opponent to date in Aguero. This was the first BKFC fight of Dodson’s career that did not end in an early knockout as it went the distance. After five rounds, the judges deemed the bout a unanimous draw.

Dodson won the first round of the fight, however fell behind after losing rounds two and three. He was able to come back in rounds four and five, but did not do enough in the eyes of the judges to claim the outright victory.

“Just kind of disappointed,” said Dodson. “I’m just more frustrated with myself for not letting the fans get what they wanted, they wanted to see a first round knockout and I couldn’t deliver. I just walked into punches and it sat me down. That’s my own fault. I’ll figure it out, I figured it out in the fourth and fifth and that’s what helped get me to the draw.”

Both Aguero and Dodson said that they hope to have a rematch in the future. A date and location remains to be seen.

In the co-main event, Albuquerque’s Donald Sanchez entered the squared circle against Dallas Davidson. Sanchez played things slow for the first two rounds, however turned it on in the third when he won by knockout.

“You know, I feel great, my hometown supports me big time,” said Sanchez. “I am just getting better and better while people say that I am old, but I just keep getting better and showing out every fight and that’s three knockouts in a row. We are ready to go out there for the world title.”
