Drying out and warming up as spring winds pick up

After periods of cooler and more active weather the past couple weeks, much drier and warmer weather is on the way. Today will be seasonable, if not a few degrees above average, with barely a cloud in the sky and relatively calm afternoon breezes. Albuquerque may see the first 80° day of the year tomorrow afternoon as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Desert Southwest. Winds will pick up tomorrow with gusts 25-45 mph, but shouldn’t create many dust issues. Fire Weather Watches and Red Flag Warnings are in effect Friday afternoon with dry, windy weather.

Temperatures will remain well above average this weekend as breezy to windy conditions continue but gusts overall should remain below 45 mph. Sunshine and spring weather will dominate through Sunday. A storm system will scrape the state into Monday, bringing some very windy weather across New Mexico.

Monday will be the windiest day of the next week, with gusts up to 70 mph statewide in the afternoon. Fire danger will likely return as well with very dry air in place. Temperatures will cool down slightly into Monday afternoon, but still remain seasonable. Drier and warmer weather will return into Tuesday with breezy winds sticking around, but not nearly as gusty as Monday.
