East Chicago man faces up to 16 years in two attempted murder cases

An East Chicago man faces up to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday in two separate shootings.

Andres Perez, now 45, was charged with attempted murder and other charges in July 2022 for allegedly shooting his wife’s relative in the arm after the man slashed his tires.

Months later, in October 2022, he was charged in another attempted murder case after allegedly wounding another person in a shooting on the Borman Expressway.

He appeared in court Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony, in the July 2022 case and aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony in the October 2022 case.

His sentencing is May 24.
