Elephant Butte gets $1 million to improve comfort stations

ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M. (KRQE) – Elephant Butte Lake State Park is getting $1 million from the Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) to improve its comfort stations. The plan is to demolish an old station at the park’s main entrance and to renovate two campground stations.

The EMNRD says the projects are expected to span from April through August; during construction, vault and portable toilets will be available for visitors to use. “We ask our visitors for patience and understanding during this process, which ultimately will produce facilities that enhance the overall park visitor experience for years to come,” says Park Superintendent Chris Bolen.

In addition to the comfort station renovation, the state park is set to improve the RV dump station, connection to city sewer services, and Ridge Road infrastructure. The park is also working to develop a new Aquatic Invasive Species check station. All of the projects are part of the park’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan.
