First 2024 primary election ballots sent to military, oversees voters

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The New Mexico Secretary of State has sent over 700 ballots to New Mexico voters that live oversees or are in the military. That means the very first ballots of the 2024 election season are on their way.

“Sending ballots to our military and overseas voters marks a critical step in the election process to ensure all qualified New Mexicans can make their voices heard, no matter where they are currently residing in the world,” Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver said in a press release.

Overseas voters can get ballots by mail, email, fax, or a secure web portal. The secretary of state says the overseas ballot process has been upgraded to make it more secure this year.

The secretary of state has to submit a report to the U.S. Department of Justice that lists ballot requests and the number of ballots sent. Most counties have qualified overseas and military voters, the secretary of state’s office says.
