Former UNM football player found guilty of robbing postal worker

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – In under two hours of deliberation, a federal jury has convicted a former Lobo football player of robbing a postal carrier in 2022. The jury convicted 28-year-old Rashawn Boyce of stealing a key from the U.S. Postal Service and of possessing a firearm while prohibited from owning a gun.

Boyce and 23-year-old Marquae Kirkendoll stole the key from a mail carrier near Louisiana Boulevard and Central Avanue, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) says. The two pulled the postal worker out of his truck, held him at gunpoint and demanded his keys, the DOJ says.

How much prison time do New Mexico’s incarcerated actually serve behind bars?

Kirkendoll pled guilty to conspiracy and faces up to 20 years in prison. Boyce now faces up to 10 years in prison, the DOJ says.

Boyce will remain in detention until he is sentenced. He is also awaiting trial for allegations that he trafficked methamphetamines into the Cibola County Correctional Center, according to the DOJ – that trial is scheduled for later this year.
