Punk’s finest have made international ties to proclaim their love of the Girl From The Record Shop, the latest single released by Frank Turner as part of his upcoming album Undefeated.

Girl From The Record Shop follows the typical (500) Days of Summer plot, where you may fantasise a bit too hard about the person behind the counter selling you the newest LPs.

“I’ve been in every day buying so much vinyl/ Don’t even own my own turntable/ Something in her smile makes me so unstable, oh yeah,” Turner chants before being joined by punchy drums and drilling guitar.

The single is one of three released in the lead-up to Turner’s tenth solo album, Undefeated, following Do One and No Thank You For The Music. There’s a maturity in the current material for album ten, containing themes of resilience in the face of life’s many adversities and paying less care towards frivolous things. Undefeated’s songs are stripped back and bludgeoned with truth.

Turner commented about the latest project:

There are no clichés about the difficult 10th album, so in some ways, that’s a liberating statement.”

But at the same time, I have a duty to justify writing and releasing a 10th album. That’s a lot of records for anybody. Also, I’m 42, which is not a sexy rock’ n’roll age. But all through my career, I’ve been interested in writers like Loudon Wainwright III or The Hold Steady, people who write about adulthood, essentially.

Originally released as a single purely by Turner, the UK rocker chose Australia’s own Teenage Joans to help add some more cheek to Girl From The Record Shop

“I’m beyond stoked to be collaborating with Teenage Joans – one of my favourite new(er) bands in the world. And they really brought the fire to this; they’ve turned the lyric around and made me laugh and dance at the same time to my own song,” Turner said.

While unable to share the release of the new collab in Australia, Teenage Joans took to socials while on their American tour opening for Noah Adams. The duo checked out the U.S. record stores to show off some of their own favourite records, displaying everything from Paramore to New Zealand band The Beths to Taylor Swift

Guitarist and singer Cahli Blakers said, We were SO excited when Frank asked us to jump on this song – it’s punk and punchy, and [drummer and singer] Tahlia [Borg] literally works at a record shop… it’s the perfect vibe for us!

In other Frank Turner news, the English troubadour announced his plan to break the world record of the most gigs played in 24 hours.
