“The National Bank of Moldova supports and encourages initiatives aimed at developing the capital market in the Republic of Moldova, and as an institution responsible for prudential supervision and the stability of the financial market, we want to facilitate the free movement of capital and financial services,” said Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), within the Moldova – Romania: Capital Bridges forum.

“Collaboration and the transfer of knowledge and best practices will open the way to the single European market and will bring this wave of investments to Chisinau and, in general, to the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, there is now a unique opportunity to learn from the experience of those who have succeeded – and this is the case of Romania and the financial market and the capital market in Romania.

We discussed with the European Banking Authority to make sure that they will evaluate the legislation of the Republic of Moldova in the perspective of the equivalence of Moldovan and European banking legislation. This means that, in a little over a year’s time, we will be able to have this stamp from a European institution saying that yes, the banking system in the Republic of Moldova is in line with European requirements.”

Anca Dragu underlined that today the Republic of Moldova is in a crucial period for its development and future, for the affirmation of its potential at the European level, and an important point is the modernization and growth of the financial market and the capital market in the Republic of Moldova.

“We benefit from a favourable macroeconomic context, and we are proud to say that inflation in the Republic of Moldova has fallen to just over 4%, which allowed us to reduce the monetary policy rate to 3.75% and to be comfortably within the target corridor of inflation”, said Anca Dragu.

“I firmly believe that those who do not invest in the Republic of Moldova today will regret it in 5-10 years. I think that those of you who know the course of the countries that have started this process of negotiation, of accession to the EU, we understand very well that the perspective of negotiations and accession to the European Union catalyses all the financial and human resources and all the good thoughts around this project from Chisinau”, the governor added.
